Avoid mocking others.

Writer's picture: JM KraemerJM Kraemer

Though out our entire lives we will run into people that we don’t agree with. Either because of how they see the world though politics, religion or other ways. Given human nature their is no way around this. And at times people will disagree with us for those same reasons mentioned.

It is how we chose to voice our disagreements that tends to matter the most. It is too easy to give into the temptation to go with an overly harsh attack and criticism of where that person may stand. Or use their own challenges against them. Such as issues with mobility, weight, cognitive issues, or even being a fall risk as such.

To openly mock someone because of their struggles shows a clear lack of compassion and charity. It also is extremely unfair to others who have to face those same kind of issues. It becomes less about someone’s opinion and more about what they have to face on a daily level. It is one of the many ways that we remove the dignity that all should have no matter where they stand on any given issue.

To make fun of someone’s struggle is not something that a follower of Christ should be actively taking part in. No matter where “the other person” stands on an issue. As followers of Christ we need to rise above what the world deems “acceptable behavior” and focus more on living a life that is inspired by the lives of the Saints.

This means that our interactions with others should show more mercy, compassion, and charity in how we present our disagreements. We can still point out the error that we see. In many ways we should. However we also should do our best to act in a way that does not put someone down or make fun of them because of the challenges they face. How we chose to present our argument says a lot about our character and how we walk with our Savior.

We will always run into people in this life who we will disagree with. If we claim to follow Christ than we must do what we can to take the high road and not resort to mocking someone because of their challenges. This way we can show mercy, compassion, and charity in all that we engage with. -
