In CALL TO ACTION!!!
Only 4 weeks left. Belfast City Council has outlined proposals to create bye-laws to effectively BAN pro-life groups and street evangelists from the City Centre. The council have stated the aim of their bye-laws is to STOP Pro-life displays and religious preaching in the city centre, which they describe as an "unacceptable nuisance". These draconian bye-laws are supported by the following anti-Christian and pro-abortion parties in Belfast City Council... ● The Alliance Party, ● Green Party, ● People Before Profit, ● SDLP and ● Sinn Féin. WHAT WILL THIS MEAN FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH? ● Any person or group who wants to set up a stall with free information leaflets or speak in a public place, will be forced to pay a fee to obtain a permit. However, the permit will only be issued to people and groups if the “nature of their activity" is approved by Council. And even those who are granted a permit will be forced to comply with the Council’s "conditions" or have their permit refused or revoked. Anyone setting up an Information Stall or using amplification equipment without a permit will be handed fines of £500. WHAT WILL THIS MEAN FOR OTHER GROUPS? ● While specifically targeting pro-life stalls and street preachers, the proposed laws will be so broad and far-reaching that ANY person. group or campaign with a public presence should be concerned, eg: Buskers; Animal Rights Groups; Families raising awareness or seeking justice on deaths of loved ones; etc. Street Pastors and Churches or Charities will be restricted in the assistance they can provide for vulnerable people in the city - eg: the homeless or those suffering from addictions, or young people requiring help from the 'SOS' buses - as the Council will not issue permits for any activities in the City Centre between 11pm – 11am. ‼️TAKE ACTION ● Belfast Council is asking the public for their views on the proposals ahead of the bye-laws being approved and rolled out across the City centre. The Public Consultation period runs until 4th March 2024. Please respond to the Public Consultation and tell Belfast City Council that you want them to uphold and protect religious liberties, and the fundamental human rights of freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. Precious Life have produced guidance notes on how to respond to the Consultation. ⬇️ preciouslife.com/campaigns/112/…(http://preciouslife.com/campaigns/112/…) #ProtectFreeSpeech

In General Discussion
Many of our so called Catholic schools have succumb to secularist bullies. These schools feel in order to be considered relative they must take on the ordained virtues of the world. Our children's souls are at stake when they are being taught these things. Learning about LGBTQ+, and so called 'safe sex'. Our children need not be sexualised, they need to learn about the benefits of chastity, and staying pure until marriage. I want to bring discussion about this danger to our children, and help concerned parents network in order to combat this happening in Catholic schools.

--- PRESS RELEASE --- 21st June 2022 Contact Bernadette Smyth 02890278484 / 07956451655 Precious Life condemn NI Secretary of State as abortions reach record high Northern Ireland’s leading pro-life group Precious Life has condemned the NI Secretary of State’s plans to force more abortions - including 'DIY Home Abortions' - on Northern Ireland. This follows publication of the latest abortion statistics released by the Department for Health, which show the highest number of abortions since records began. 214,869 babies were killed by abortion in England and Wales in 2021. 3,370 of these babies were killed on the grounds that the child may have been disabled. 859 babies were killed because they had Down’s syndrome, and 40 babies were killed simply because they had cleft lip or cleft palate – a condition that’s easily treated. 88 babies were killed by ‘selective’ abortions because they were a twin or triplet. The figures also reveal that 161 babies with mothers from Northern Ireland, were killed by abortion in England. This significant rise in the number of babies killed in 2021 is likely down to this being the first full year that so-called “DIY home abortions” have been operating in England and Wales. The Express Newspaper recently reported on the “Abortion Pill Horror” in Britain that has resulted in more than 10,000 women requiring hospital treatment over side effects of so-called “DIY abortion pill” at home. A new study has revealed that more than 1 in 17 women, around 20 a day, who used the "abortion pills by post" in 2020 needed hospital treatment. Spokesperson for Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth said, “These latest abortion statistics are truly horrifying. They reveal that almost 600 babies were killed EVERY DAY in England and Wales. This highlights the hypocrisy of the UK Government - who throughout 2021 were still telling us to “save lives” – yet they allowed 214,869 little babies to be killed. “The latest abortion figures for Northern Ireland show that between 31 March 2020 and 31 January 2022, a total of 2,794 babies were killed here. That’s approximately 30 babies killed each week. “Yet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis, wants more abortions here. He has used his power to seize control of abortion from the NI Assembly to force more abortions on Northern Ireland, and has indicated he also wants to legislate for ‘DIY home abortions’. “Brandon Lewis is ignoring not only the deaths of the babies killed by these abortion pills, but also ignoring the horrendous side effects caused to women. And now he wants women in Northern Ireland to suffer a similar fate.” Bernadette Smyth concluded, “Brandon Lewis and his Westminster Government have already presided over the killing of 214,869 babies in England and Wales. And yet they want more abortions here even though the legislation they forced on Northern Ireland has now resulted in the deaths of 2,794 innocent babies. Even one death by abortion is one too many, but 2,794 is shocking. Every child deserves to be protected from the barbaric practice of abortion and every woman in an unexpected pregnancy deserves genuine life-affirming healthcare. Women in Northern Ireland deserve better than abortion. Precious Life will continue campaigning to protect mothers in Northern Ireland and restore personhood and full legal protection for their unborn babies."

The results of the election to the Northern Ireland Assembly show that 30% of MLAs are pro-life. In the months leading up to the election, Precious Life’s VOTE PRO-LFE Campaign exposed the pro-abortion candidates and highlighted the pro-life candidates who promised to protect the right to life of babies in the womb. On Thursday 5th May, 27 pro-life candidates were elected to the 90 seat Assembly. The MLAs are from the DUP, TUV, and an Independent. Aontú, the only pro-life Nationalist party standing in the election, who although didn’t win any seats, did gain a credible 12,777 first preference votes. The Party will now build on this success for future elections While the media made much of Sinn Fein now being the "largest party" (although they didn’t gain any additional seats) and the "surge" in the Alliance Party vote – no mention was made that these parties support the killing of babies, for any reason, right up to the moment of birth. They also support the draconian "Abortion Zones" law to criminalise women and men in their constituencies who pray outside abortion centres. The SDLP - who abandoned their longstanding pro-life policy and supported Westminster forcing abortion on Northern Ireland - lost 4 seats, dropping now to having only 8 seats . This party also supported the "Abortion Zones" law to criminalise their constituents who are pro-life. The loss of their 4 seats also means they do not qualify for a seat in the NI Executive. The UUP – whose leader Doug Beattie said Northern Ireland needs more abortions "as soon as possible" – dropped to having only 9 seats. The pro-abortion Green Party lost the only 2 seats they had in the previous Assembly, including party leader Clare Bailey – who introduced the discriminatory "Abortion Zones" bill to criminalise women and men who pray outside abortion centres. The 27 pro-life MLAs are: Philip Brett and Brian Kingston – DUP - (Belfast North) Edwin Poots – DUP - (Belfast South) Joanne Bunting and David Brooks – DUP - (Belfast East) Stephen Gordon Dunne – DUP - and Alex Easton – Independent – ( North Down) Diane Forsythe Kingston – DUP – (South Down) Keith Buchanan – DUP – (Mid Ulster) Johnathon Buckley and Dianne Dodds – DUP – (Upper Bann) Paul Frew – DUP - and Jim Allister – TUV – (North Antrim) Pam Cameron and Trevor Clarke – DUP – (South Antrim) Gordon Lyon’s and David Hilditch – DUP – (East Antrim) Harry Harvey and Michelle Mc llveen – DUP – (Strangford) Jeffrey Donaldson and Paul Girvan – DUP – (Lagan Valley) William Irwin – DUP – (Newry and Armagh) Tom Buchanan – DUP – (West Tyrone) Deborah Erskine – DUP – (Fermanagh and South Tyrone) Gary Middleton – DUP – (Foyle) Maurice Bradley and Alan Robinson – DUP – (East L/Derry) These MLAs will have a tough job ahead of them challenging the pro-abortionists in Sinn Fein, Alliance, SDLP, UUP and PBP. But we will give them our full support as they work hard with us to defend our unborn children. Precious Life congratulate all the pro-life MLAs who were elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We will continue lobbying the MLAs to REPEAL SECTION 9 (Westminster’s abortion legislation forced on Northern Ireland) and demand the Assembly ‘RESTORE PERSONHOOD’ and restore full legal protection for all Northern Ireland’s unborn babies.

In PRO-LIFE IRELAND
Precious Life exposed the hypocrisy of pro-abortionist MLAs from Sinn Fein, SDLP, Alliance, UUP, Green Party and PBP. who ignored the human rights of free speech and freedom of assembly when they voted to introduce a draconian law to criminalise women and men who pray outside abortion centres in Northern Ireland. The so called "Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones)" – definitely not safe for unborn children within these zones – targets pro-life people who are simply standing quietly praying, or holding a sign, or handing out information leaflets, or speak to a woman to offer her help. The terms of the legislation are so broad and sweeping, that any innocent person who acts in any way that might “influence” a woman to keep her baby, will be charged with committing a crime and face fines of up to £2500 This law must be scrapped. Precious Life’s legal team is currently working on a court case to challenge this law’s blatant breach of human rights. It denies people their fundamental human rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression – both protected under Articles 10 and 11 of the Human Rights Act. It also breaks one of the of the key principles of the Good Friday Agreement, which is to uphold the right to expression of religion. A Belfast Health Trust also admitted manipulating the number of alleged incidents at pro-Life vigils outside abortion centre, and presented the false figures to the NI Assembly while the bill was being debated. Pro-abortionists in Scotland are trying to enact similar law there. But even the Scottish First Minister – pro-abortion Nicola Sturgeon – has acknowledged to banish pro-lifers from the public street may be a breach of international human rights law. If something is being hindered by human rights laws, it’s usually an indicator that it’s wrong. The fact that it’s stopping the Scottish government from censoring pro-life volunteers is a credit to the international legal system, says Lois McLatchie… Despite bold public statements from leaders about standing with women in support of abortion, few have stopped to consider if championing abortion is really what women want. 70 per cent of UK females surveyed want to see protections for unborn life begin earlier than the current 24 weeks. And new polling from the BBC shows that more than one in ten women have felt “coerced” into having an abortion. If not talked into it by abusive partners or ‘friends’, many feel they have no option because of social or economic pressures. It’s these women – who would like to keep their child if only they had the support – that pro-life volunteers have been faithfully serving over the years. Groups such as The Good Council Network smash the negative and unjust stigma that pro-lifers ‘don’t care about women’. Rather, their offer – should a woman wish to hear it and take it up – is to meet her financial, material and emotional needs while she carries her child, and after birth. THE CAMPAIGN TO INSTALL CENSORIAL BUFFER ZONES ACTUALLY REMOVES REAL CHOICE FROM WOMEN The fruits of these charitable efforts are remarkable. Take Alina Dulgheriu. Abandoned by her boyfriend and fired from her job, she found herself pregnant, desperate and alone. When she asked an abortion facility about her options, they glibly replied: “We only offer abortion.” But thanks to a volunteer who offered her a leaflet just before her appointment, she found the help that would empower her to make the choice she really wanted to make. Alina is now mother to nine-year-old Sarah and became a volunteer herself in order to keep the option of help open to other women. BUFFER ZONES They say that all is fair in love and culture wars, but amid the ideological furore surrounding abortion in the UK today, activists are campaigning to have charitable pro-life workers banned from the streets outside abortion clinics; censored for their beliefs. The campaigners claim that pro-lifers ‘harass’ women arriving for appointments. Harassing anyone - particularly vulnerable women - would be deeply wrong. But harassment is already illegal, and we can rest assured that if volunteers were to engage in it, it would be prosecuted. In reality, a 2018 review from the UK Home Office found that any instances of harassment were rare outliers. And, more importantly, police already have sufficient powers to tackle such unlawful conduct. REDUCING HELP, NOT HARM So in the end, it’s not harm, but help, that would be hindered if buffer zones were installed around abortion clinics in the UK. And, ultimately, it won’t be the pro-life counsellors who will suffer the real impact of this censorship, it will be the women, like Alina, who would be prevented from receiving offers of support. The irony is clear. In the name of choice, the campaign to install censorial buffer zones actually removes real choice from women. The pressure placed on national leaders to implement these zones is serious. The Northern Ireland Assembly rolled them out nationwide last month. Media pressure on the Scottish government to follow suit is at an all-time high, with headlines calling volunteers “disgusting” for holding signs saying “Pregnant? We care. We will help you.” ONE IN TEN WOMEN HAVE FELT “COERCED” INTO HAVING AN ABORTION But as Nicola Sturgeon acknowledged yesterday, to banish pro-lifers from the public street may be a breach of nothing less than international human rights law. RIGHT TO LIFE Although human rights are often misconstrued in the ideological debates of our time, these are specific, codified provisions, derived from the equal inherent dignity of every human being, and locked into international treaties. There is no human right to abortion. There is, on the other hand, a right to life that explicitly includes the unborn child; and to speech, assembly and religious freedom. In England, concerns have been repeatedly raised that buffer zones would violate human rights. Yet Ealing and Richmond councils have already implemented this policy, making even silent prayer - the most basic manifestation of religious freedom - illegal on the public street. Refusal to pay a fine for this ‘thought crime’ can lead to prosecution. Indeed, the freedoms to assemble and speak freely in public are not only protected in international law, but are a cornerstone of a liberal society. Free speech allows us to hear, learn, challenge one another and progress towards something better for everyone. Restricting that right not only deprives some from speaking, but others from hearing ideas (and life-changing offers) in the public square - if they want to. To decide for women what they do and don’t want to hear is, at best, deeply patronising. Sturgeon would do well to withstand the pressure and stand up for the interests of vulnerable women like Alina - and the thousands of women across Scotland who might appreciate the empowering offer of a little help. Censorship would detrimentally impact their rights. And women’s rights, as they say, are indeed human rights.

In PRO-LIFE USA
10 May 2022 - Police in the USA have confirmed Antifa firebombed a Wisconsin pro-life charity's office. During the attack on the office of Wisconsin Family Action, a window was broken and the building was covered with graffiti. Vandals spray painted the walls with the chilling message: 'If abortions aren't safe you aren't either.' The Antifa symbol - a capital 'A' inside a circle - was also scrawled on the wall, as well as the numbers 1312 - a code for the letters ACAB, which stand for 'All Cops Are B*stards.' The attack comes just days after a leaked U.S. Supreme Court document revealed a majority of their judges had agreed to overturn “Roe v. Wade” – the infamous 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalised abortion across the United States. More than 63 million babies are estimated to have been killed in the U.S. since then. The leaking of the Court document lead to protests from those who support the killing of unborn babies. Two petrol bombs were thrown at the Wisconsin Family Action office. A room at the foundation was badly-damaged by fire. It was discovered early Sunday morning when a passerby called police and reported seeing flames coming from the headquarters of the pro-life group. No one was hurt in the attack, but Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said had someone been in the office 'it could have gone differently.' Barnes said the investigation could be lengthy. 'I do anticipate we will be able to solve this but we want to take our time to be sure we do it correctly,' he said. Investigators from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting with the investigation. Police Chief Barnes encouraged anyone who may have seen anything to contact police. Area businesses were also being contacted to see if they have any evidence or captured anything on surveillance cameras, he said. Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, said she believed the vandalism was a direct response to the leak of the Supreme Court document. She said 'this attack fails to frighten us, and instead steels the resolve of law-abiding, common-sense, every-day folks to stand up and push back.' Wisconsin Family Action has been a prominent force in the state for years, advocating for laws to limit access to abortions, fighting to overturn the “Roe v. Wade” Pro-abortionists protested in cities around the U.S. on Saturday, vowing to fight to ensure the killing of babies before birth remains legal. Pro-life advocates also took to the streets to defend the right to life of babies in the womb. Hundreds gathered in several major cities across the nation, including Chicago, Atlanta and Houston, to fight for the right to life of unborn babies. Pro-abortion organisations organised protests at the homes of Supreme Court Judges. On Saturday, furious pro-abortion protesters screamed outside the homes of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The pro-abortion protests came after Joe Biden’s White House said it encourages protests, and would not tell abortion activists to avoid the judges’ homes. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Thursday that President Joe Biden's message to those angered by the Court document is to 'protest'. She said the President shared their “horror” that laws might change to protect unborn babies. The leaked Supreme Court document says the Roe v Wade Court ruling "had damaging consequences", was "ergregiously wrong from the start" and "must be overruled". Pro-life legislation in the US has been increasing in recent months as Republican-led states move to strengthen laws protecting unborn babies - with some seeking to ban all abortions after six weeks, These include Arizona, where the Republican Governor in March signed a bill banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy; and Idaho where the governor signed a six-week abortion ban that allows family members of the unborn child to sue abortionists, similar to a Texas law enacted last year. If “Roe v Wade” is overturned by the Supreme Court - it would give individual states the power to decide on whether to ban abortion. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion research group, has said that 26 states are 'certain or likely' to ban abortion if “Roe v. Wade” is overturned.

--- PRESS RELEASE --- 8th April 2022 Contact Bernadette Smyth 028090278484 / 07956451655 Belfast Health Trust admits manipulating the figures of alleged incidents at Pro-Life Vigils outside abortion centre Precious Life are demanding the Abortion Access Zones law, passed at Stormont in March, must now be scrapped after it was revealed a Health Trust manipulated the evidence it provided to the Assembly. The Belfast Health Trust has been forced to apologise to MLAs for manipulating the number of what the Trust calls “adverse incidents” at pro-life vigils outside its baby-killing centre in College Street. The number of alleged ‘incidents’ during pro-life vigils at the Belfast abortion centre was presented to MLAs as strong justification for passing the law to criminalise pro-life woman and men. The Abortion Access Zones law now criminalises innocent people, allowing them to be fined up to £2,500 for simply praying outside abortion centres in Northern Ireland. The number of alleged ‘incidents’ that Belfast Health Trust presented to the Assembly increased by a massive 1,950% between two different evidence sessions last year. In July the Trust had told the Assembly Health Committee that there had only been 2 ‘incidents’ in the previous year and that “...the vast majority of the protests have been peaceful and respectful”. But by December its evidence was that there had been 41 ‘incidents’ since March. The Health Trust confirmed to the Belfast News Letter that, between the two Assembly Evidence Sessions, it added more incidents to its database to boost the figures from May to October - some of them apparently 8 months after they were alleged to have occurred. The Trust also admitted that out of their 41 alleged ‘incidents’, only 4 were considered worthy of reporting to police. To date, the PSNI has not given the outcome of the four complaints made by Belfast Health Trust. It’s no surprise that those in Belfast Health Trust who justify killing a baby in the womb, would be totally untrustworthy when it comes to giving evidence to the Assembly. But what other untrustworthy evidence and misinformation were presented by other Health Trusts and pro-abortion groups? The Abortion Access Zones law must now be torn up and thrown in the bin where it belongs. --- END --- Contact Precious Life by email info@preciouslife.com

Precious Life say shocking new guidelines on killing unborn babies are supported by Political Parties in Northern Ireland. The so-called World ‘Health’ Organisation (WHO) has called on governments around the world to scrap ANY laws that place any restrictions on abortion, and allow babies in the womb to be killed right up to the moment of birth. Precious Life is urging voters to reject at the polls, any candidate who does not oppose the WHO guidelines. The WHO "Abortion Care Guidelines" recommend that governments allow abortion-on-demand under all circumstances; stop the requirement of a doctor’s approval for an abortion, promote 'pills by post' schemes so that women can be sent abortion pills after a phone call; and curtail medical professionals’ rights to refuse to take part in abortions on conscience grounds. Precious Life's Bernadette Smyth said, "Anyone with an ounce of humanity will quite rightly be shocked and horrified by these WHO guidelines. But there are Political Parties in Northern Ireland who support every recommendation made by the WHO. "The WHO say killing babies in the womb 'is a crucial part of health care' and they call for the 'decriminalisation' of abortion. "Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party, and PBP all supported the 'decriminalisation' of abortion in Northern Ireland. (As an aside, it should be noted that they all supported the criminalisation of people who pray outside abortion centres in Northern Ireland). These Parties also describe killing babies in the womb as 'healthcare'. They voted in support of killing babies with disabilities. They support Westminster’s plans to over-ride the Assembly and fully commission abortion here, allowing babies to be killed right up to the moment of birth.” She added, "Nowhere in the WHO document is there any mention of the right to life of a baby in the womb. In fact, one of the pro-abortion so-called ‘experts’ involved in drawing up the guidelines said the word 'WOMB' should not be used because it’s an 'emotional' word. When have Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party, or PBP ever acknowledged the right to life of a baby in the womb? "The WHO guidelines are also silent on sex-selective abortion, despite the killing of little girl babies being common in countries such as India, Pakistan and China. Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party, and PBP's support for sex-selective abortion is evident by their silence on the issue." Bernadette Smyth concluded, "We reiterate once again - there are pro-abortion candidates standing in the coming Assembly Election who are not fit to hold political office. When candidates from Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party and PBP arrive on your doorstop asking for your vote, ask them what’s their views on the WHO guidelines. If they cannot give a clear definitive statement of opposition to them – if they will not acknowledge the right to life of a baby in the womb - tell them you will not give them your vote. We urge people to vote only for pro-life candidates in the Election on 5th May and return MLAs to the Assembly who will protect babies in the womb.”

Precious Life has condemned the UK Government and NI Secretary of State for preparing regulations to take power and force "fully commissioned abortion" in Northern Ireland after the Assembly Election in May. On Thursday (24 March) the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis, set out the legislative options being planned by the UK Government for the full commissioning of abortion here. Full commissioning will allow abortion on demand, for any reason, right up to the moment of birth. The latest Westminster plans will also remove the need for NI Executive approval for abortion to be fully commissioned. BACKGROUND: The laws in Northern Ireland that protected mothers and unborn babies were dismantled in 2019 while the Assembly was suspended, and Westminster forced abortion on Northern Ireland through Section 9 of the 'NI Executive Formation Act'. But since the Stormont Assembly has been up and running again since January 2020, the full commissioning of abortion has been stalled due to disagreement within the five-party Executive of the Assembly. In March 2021, Brandon Lewis took unprecedented powers allowing him to force Stormont to fully commission abortion. Then in July 2021, he directed the Assembly to fully commission the killing of unborn babies no later than 31st March this year (2022). In December 2021, a bill before the NI Assembly that would have at least protected babies with disabilities such as Down's Syndrome, Cleft Lip, or Club Foot, was rejected by MLAs from Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party and PBP [see Pro-abortion Assembly Members vote for the murder of babies with disabilities in Northern Ireland ] Since abortion was forced on Northern Ireland, over 2394 babies have now been killed. But Brandon Lewis says he is "extremely disappointed" that more babies haven’t been killed. He even has the audacity to claim he has "a moral obligation” to ensure more unborn babies are killed here. Lewis says he firmly believes that the killing of unborn babies must be of "high-quality", and that it is "unacceptable" that killing unborn babies in Northern Ireland is not available as it is across the rest of the UK. He added, “I am determined to do everything I can…” to ensure more unborn babies are killed in Northern Ireland. The Secretary of State also announced that he is immediately setting up a team with experience in the killing of unborn babies, to work directly with the NI Department of Health to ensure more abortions are committed. He will take power to override the NI Assembly and intervene directly following the election in May. Director of Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said, "There are pro-abortion candidates standing in the coming Assembly Election who support Brandon Lewis interfering and taking power over the Assembly. These candidates – from Sinn Fein, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, Green Party and PBP - are not fit to hold political office. We urge the people of Northern Ireland to vote only for pro-life candidates on 5th May, and ensure the Assembly is returned with MLAs who will stand up against Brandon Lewis and Westminster, and restore full legal protection for our unborn babies."

e-News from Precious Life Pro Life Group launch legal challenge to ‘Abortion Zones’ legislation Northern Ireland’s leading pro-life group Precious Life have announced they will launch a legal challenge to the abortion access zones legislation that was passed by pro-abortion MLAs in the Assembly today. The pro-life group said their legal action will go right up to the European Court of Human Rights. Green Party leader Clare Bailey’s bill to criminalise pro-life people who hold vigils outside abortion centres, was passed by 55 to 29 votes. Bailey has admitted the aim of her bill was to CRIMINALISE ANYONE who talks to a woman going into an abortion centre - offers her help or support - or simply holds a pro-life sign - or even stands silently praying. Any woman or man in Northern Ireland doing any of these innocent acts now faces fines up to £2500. Spokesperson for Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said, “The passing of this draconian and oppressive bill now criminalises innocent women and men who hold peaceful pro-life vigils outside abortion centres in Northern Ireland. “But we will not let this discriminatory legislation go unchallenged. It denies people their fundamental human rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression – both protected under Articles 10 and 11 of the Human Rights Act. It also breaks one of the of the key principles of the Good Friday Agreement, which is to uphold the right to expression of religion. Precious Life will challenge this through our local courts, the High Court, the Supreme Court, and if need be, right up to the European Court of Human Rights.” She added, “The 55 MLAs who voted for this bill should be ashamed. Clare Bailey and the other pro-abortionists in SDLP, Sinn Fein, UUP, Alliance, and People Before Profit completely ignore the reality that little babies are being killed inside these abortion centres. The ultimate 'safe zone' for unborn babies should be in their mothers’ wombs.” Bernadette Smyth concluded, “Precious Life’s peaceful vigils in Northern Ireland will continue offering help and life-affirming alternatives to women outside the abortion centres. We will never stop actively protecting unborn babies — when and wherever their lives are at risk.

ACTION ALERT - ask your MLA to listen to a woman who was helped outside an abortion centre - and vote against 'Abortion Zones' Bill on Thursday. Green Party Leader Clare Bailey's Bill to criminalise pro-life people outside abortion centres was due to be debated in the NI Assembly today. Claire Bailey wanted to suspend Assembly rules and allow her Bill to proceed to the Final Stage a day earlier than the Assembly rules would normally allow. However, suspending the rules went to a vote but was defeated. Deputy Speaker Roy Beggs then ruled that the Bill could not be debated today. The Bill is now likely to be debated on Thursday. This gives us another chance to continue lobbying the MLAs. Many members of the Northern Ireland Assembly support the draconian and discriminatory Bill While they claim to support women's "right to choose", these MLAs have not listened to the women who chose to keep their babies after talking to and receiving help from pro-life groups outside abortion centres. Precious Life give a voice to one of those many women. Watch her testimony here... (36) Mother chooses life for her baby after meeting Precious Life outside abortion centre in N. Ireland - YouTube Assembly Members will break Good Friday Agreement if they vote to pass Abortion Access Bill In its section affirming the Human Rights of everyone in Northern Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement states, ‘The parties affirm their commitment to the mutual respect, the civil rights and the religious liberties of everyone in the community ...the parties affirm in particular ...the right to freedom and expression of religion’. But this Abortion Zones Bill will deny the civil rights and religious liberties of anyone who prays outside an abortion centre. TAKE ACTION - Stop the 'Abortion Zones Bill' NOW Send the video link to your MLAs - https://youtu.be/6lYKx46sK6w Also tell your MLAs to uphold one of the key principles of the Good Friday Agreement - the right to freedom and expression of religion. Tell your MLAs that pro-life vigils are peaceful, and the police already have adequate powers to deal with any alleged actions that are against the law. Tell them that regardless of their views on abortion, the right to freedom of assembly, and the right to freedom and expression of religion, are fundamental human rights that they must uphold and protect. Also ask them to sign the Petition of Concern against the Bill - even at this late stage. In CALL TO ACTION!!!
--- PRESS RELEASE --- 21 March 2022 Contact Bernadette Smyth 02890278484 / 07956451655 Assembly Members will break Good Friday Agreement if they vote to pass Abortion Access Bill The SDLP, Sinn Fein, UUP and Alliance Party will break one of the key principles of the Good Friday Agreement if they vote to pass an Abortion Access Bill, says leading pro-life group Precious Life. The Good Friday Agreement upholds the right to expression of religion, but the Bill will criminalise anyone praying outside an abortion centre. The so-called ‘Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones)’ Bill was introduced by Green Party Leader Clare Bailey. The Bill reaches its Final Stage in the Assembly tomorrow (Tuesday 22 March), when MLAs will vote on whether to pass the Bill into law. Precious Life also called on Church Leaders in Northern Ireland to speak out against the Bill. The DUP and TUV have voted against the Bill through all its stages, warning that the “sweeping ...absolutist ...totalitarian” Bill will criminalise protest; is unnecessary with existing public order laws; and will result in protracted legal action. Precious Life, Spokesperson Bernadette Smyth said, “The SDLP, Sinn Fein, UUP and Alliance were all involved in negotiating and endorsing the Good Friday Agreement back in 1998. Now in 2022, they all still claim to support the Agreement. The SDLP say there is a legal and moral obligation to uphold the Good Friday Agreement in all its parts. Their former leader John Hume was one of the main architects of the Good Friday Agreement, together with David Trimble, the former leader of the UUP. Sinn Féin give it their full support and say there is a collective duty on those who negotiated and endorsed the Good Friday Agreement to defend it and ensure its implementation. The Alliance Party said recently that any UK government restrictions on freedom to protest would undermine the Good Friday Agreement. “Yet all these Parties cherry-pick the Good Friday Agreement when it comes to the issue of this Abortion Access Zones Bill." She explained, “In its section affirming the Human Rights of everyone in Northern Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement states, ‘The parties affirm their commitment to the mutual respect, the civil rights and the religious liberties of everyone in the community ...the parties affirm in particular ...the right to freedom and expression of religion’. “But this Abortion Zones Bill will deny the civil rights and religious liberties of anyone who prays outside an abortion centre.” Mrs Smyth added, “Clare Bailey claims her Bill will not stop people from praying. But her Bill will stop people praying outside an abortion centre. The Bill clearly states that its aim is to criminalise any action within 150 metres of an abortion centre, which may have the effect of influencing persons accessing the premises. “Any MLA who votes to pass this Bill will make a mockery of the Good Friday Agreement. Prayer Vigils outside abortion centres bring together members of the Nationalist and Unionist communities, who stand together in unity. But if this Bill is passed, they will be criminals for expressing their religious beliefs. “We call on all MLAs - regardless of their views on abortion - to oppose this Bill and uphold the Good Friday Agreement’s principle of freedom and expression of religion.” Bernadette Smyth concluded, “We also call on the Church Leaders in Northern Ireland to speak out and call on the Assembly to defend the rights of those in their congregations who express their religious faith by praying for mothers and unborn babies outside abortion centres. - - - ENDS - - - Contact Precious Life by emailCopyright © 2022 PRECIOUS LIFE All rights reserved.
