A little bit of Wisdom

You see a lot of people with ministries or other Catholic related stuff on the internet all the time. People who have a following and often times a platform. In my case I have those who follow me mainly on Twitter, FB, SubStack and Catholicism Rocks. It is important to keep what we are doing into some kind of focus. So people understand what our message is.

Keep in mind that while I’ve been doing The Lego Church Project for twenty five years. I am by no means any kind of expert on this. Despite what some may claim I’m not famous nor am I a true “Catholic influencer”. Though to be fair that isn’t the point of what I do. Here is some advice that I follow to keep myself going. Though your millage may vary.

The main element is to figure out why you are doing this. Are you an artist, writer, commenter or such? Are you doing this to share the faith? To give hope to others. Or do you feel that you have something to say. The other element to consider is the purpose. Are you doing this for yourself or do you feel that God is calling you down this path.

That last bit has always been key for me. Because with The Lego Church Project I am doing this for the Glory of God. Above all else that is the purpose that I have and what keeps me going.

The second bit is to understand that in this path you will struggle. In fact many times your struggles will outweigh your victories. Sometimes you will run into endless roadblocks that will out right frustrate you. To the point that you want to give up. If you wish to keep doing what you are doing then you have to push on. I know this one first hand. A good example is my challenges in finding parishes to display at.

The last bit of advice I can offer is to simply remain humble before God in all that you do. Show gratitude to those around you for supporting your work. Show kindness in how you interact with people. Even if they may not like what you are doing and become vocal about it.

Being humble can be more difficult the more popular you become. But it is important so that you don’t fall into the pitfalls of so many that I’ve seen. They start off great and build the audience. However at some point it becomes more about the money and fame that they generate. They can get more clicks for the outrage they cause rather than keeping things focused on God.

In my own case I do what I can to remind myself of what I am doing and why I am doing it. That what I do isn’t so much for myself as it is to give Glory to God in all things. A reminder that while I have been featured in many articles, podcasts, and even some rare TV appearances. That this isn’t so much about me. It is about what God is doing in my own life by using the talents that God has given me. It also also about my core mission of sharing the faith creatively and talking about issues as it relates to living with a disability. So long as I am in service to Christ that is all that matters.

I am no expert in this. I’m learning new things everyday. What I have offered in this article is about my own experience and how I push though even when things are not going according to plan. It is my hope that the readers will gain a little bit of insight and wisdom on how they can use their talents for God. -
