Feastbearers Catechism for Children

This is a deeper introduction to the Catholic faith, helping children grow in their understanding of God and the Sacraments.

Each lesson includes a clear truth, a fuller explanation, a short reflection, and a simple action to help children live what they learn.

These lessons can be used at home, in school, or in a group setting.

Part 1 — The Creed

We learn who God is, what He has done for us, and what the Church teaches us to believe.

Lesson 1 — The Purpose of Man’s Existence

Truth: God made me to know Him, love Him, and serve Him.

Explanation: God made you on purpose. He wants you to belong to Him in this life and to be with Him forever in heaven.

Reflection: My life has a purpose in God.

Action: Offer your day to God this morning.


Lesson 2 — God and His Perfections

Truth: God is infinitely perfect.

Explanation: God is all-good, all-wise, all-powerful, and full of love. He never changes and never fails.

Reflection: God is greater than everything.

Action: Praise God for one of His perfections today.


Lesson 3 — The Unity and Trinity of God

Truth: There is one God in three Divine Persons.

Explanation: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three distinct Persons, but they are the one true God.

Reflection: God is a mystery of love.

Action: Make the Sign of the Cross slowly and reverently.


Lesson 4 — Creation and the Angels

Truth: God created all things, including the angels.

Explanation: Everything that exists comes from God. The angels are His servants and messengers.

Reflection: All creation belongs to God.

Action: Thank God for one beautiful thing He made.


Lesson 5 — The Creation and the Fall of Man

Truth: God made man good, but man fell by sin.

Explanation: Adam and Eve were created in friendship with God, but by disobeying Him they lost that holiness.

Reflection: Sin harms friendship with God.

Action: Ask God for a heart that obeys Him quickly.


Lesson 6 — Actual Sin

Truth: Actual sin is when I choose what I know is wrong.

Explanation: Sin can happen in my thoughts, words, actions, or by failing to do what I should do.

Reflection: I do not want to turn away from God.

Action: Examine your choices quietly today.


Lesson 7 — The Incarnation

Truth: The Son of God became man.

Explanation: Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He came into the world because He loves us and wants to save us.

Reflection: God came close to us in Jesus.

Action: Say: “Jesus, I believe in You.”


Lesson 8 — The Redemption

Truth: Jesus redeemed us by His suffering, death, and resurrection.

Explanation: Jesus offered Himself on the Cross for our sins and rose again in glory to open heaven for us.

Reflection: Jesus gave everything to save me.

Action: Spend a quiet moment looking at a crucifix.


Lesson 9 — The Holy Ghost and Grace

Truth: The Holy Spirit gives grace.

Explanation: Grace is God’s free gift in the soul. It helps me live as His child and do what is right.

Reflection: I need God’s grace every day.

Action: Pray: “Holy Spirit, fill me with grace.”


Lesson 10 — The Virtues and Gifts of the Holy Ghost

Truth: God helps me grow in holiness.

Explanation: The virtues help me choose what is good, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit help me follow God more readily.

Reflection: God can make me stronger and better.

Action: Ask for one gift of the Holy Spirit today.


Lesson 11 — The Catholic Church

Truth: Jesus founded the Catholic Church.

Explanation: The Church teaches the truth, gives us the Sacraments, and leads us safely to Christ.

Reflection: The Church is my spiritual home.

Action: Thank Jesus for giving us His Church.


Lesson 12 — The Marks and Attributes of the Church

Truth: The Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

Explanation: These marks show the true Church founded by Jesus Christ and help us recognise her.

Reflection: Jesus keeps His Church faithful.

Action: Repeat the four marks of the Church aloud.


Lesson 13 — The Communion of Saints and the Forgiveness of Sins

Truth: All the members of Christ are united, and God forgives sins through His Church.

Explanation: The saints in heaven, the souls in purgatory, and the faithful on earth all belong to one family in Christ.

Reflection: I am part of God’s great family.

Action: Ask your patron saint to pray for you today.


Lesson 14 — The Resurrection and Life Everlasting

Truth: God made us for everlasting life.

Explanation: At the end, God will raise the dead, judge all people, and reward the faithful with eternal life in heaven.

Reflection: I want to live with God forever.

Action: Pray: “God, keep me faithful to the end.”

Part 2 — The Commandments

We learn how God teaches us to live in love, truth, and holiness.

Lesson 15 — The Two Great Commandments

Truth: I must love God and love my neighbour.

Explanation: Jesus taught that all God’s commandments are gathered into these two great commands of love.

Reflection: Love is at the heart of the Christian life.

Action: Do one loving thing for someone today.


Lesson 16 — The First Commandment of God

Truth: I must worship God alone.

Explanation: God must come first in my life. I should honour Him with faith, hope, love, and prayer.

Reflection: God deserves first place in my heart.

Action: Say: “God, You come first.”


Lesson 17 — Honoring the Saints, Relics and Images

Truth: We honour the saints and holy things because they lead us to God.

Explanation: We do not worship saints, relics, or holy images. We honour them because they help us love Jesus more.

Reflection: The saints show me how to follow Christ.

Action: Choose one saint to imitate this week.


Lesson 18 — The Second and Third Commandments of God

Truth: I must respect God’s name and keep Sunday holy.

Explanation: God’s name is holy, and Sunday belongs to Him in a special way through Mass, prayer, and rest.

Reflection: My words and worship should honour God.

Action: Say the holy name of Jesus with love and reverence.


Lesson 19 — The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Commandments of God

Truth: God teaches me to honour, protect, and respect.

Explanation: I should honour my parents, care for life, and keep my heart and body pure.

Reflection: God teaches me how to love rightly.

Action: Obey promptly the next time you are asked to do something good.


Lesson 20 — The Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Commandments of God

Truth: I must be honest, truthful, pure in heart, and content.

Explanation: God does not want me to steal, lie, envy, or desire what is not mine.

Reflection: A clean and truthful heart pleases God.

Action: Thank God for what you already have.


Lesson 21 — The Commandments of the Church; The First and Second Commandments

Truth: The Church has the authority to guide me.

Explanation: The Church tells us to hear Mass on Sundays and holy days, and to keep her rules on fasting and abstinence.

Reflection: The Church helps me live faithfully.

Action: Prepare your heart well for Sunday Mass.


Lesson 22 — The Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Commandments of the Church

Truth: The Church gives me clear duties as a Catholic.

Explanation: These duties include yearly Confession, Easter Communion, supporting the Church, and following the Church’s laws faithfully.

Reflection: Obedience helps me grow in faith.

Action: Say: “Jesus, help me love Your Church.”

Part 3 — The Sacraments and Prayer

We learn how Jesus gives us grace through the Sacraments and teaches us to pray.

Lesson 23 — The Sacraments

Truth: The Sacraments are outward signs instituted by Christ to give grace.

Explanation: Jesus uses the Sacraments to help, strengthen, heal, and sanctify us throughout our lives.

Reflection: Jesus still cares for me through His Church.

Action: Say: “Jesus, thank You for the Sacraments.”


Lesson 24 — Baptism

Truth: Baptism makes me a child of God.

Explanation: In Baptism, original sin is washed away, grace is given, and I become a member of the Church.

Reflection: I belong to God’s family.

Action: Make the Sign of the Cross and remember your Baptism.


Lesson 25 — Confirmation

Truth: Confirmation strengthens me with the Holy Spirit.

Explanation: In Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives special strength to live and defend the faith more faithfully.

Reflection: God wants me to be strong in faith.

Action: Pray: “Holy Spirit, make me brave for Jesus.”


Lesson 26 — The Holy Eucharist

Truth: Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist.

Explanation: Under the appearances of bread and wine, Jesus is really present: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

Reflection: Jesus comes very close to me in the Eucharist.

Action: Say: “Jesus, I believe You are truly here.”


Lesson 27 — The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

Truth: The Mass is the sacrifice of Christ made present for us.

Explanation: At Mass, the one sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross is made present in an unbloody way, and we join ourselves to Him.

Reflection: The Mass is holy and precious.

Action: Offer one prayer at Mass with special attention this week.


Lesson 28 — Holy Communion

Truth: In Holy Communion I receive Jesus Himself.

Explanation: To receive well, I should be in the state of grace and come with faith, love, and reverence.

Reflection: I want to welcome Jesus with a clean heart.

Action: Before Communion, pray quietly: “Jesus, make my heart ready.”


Lesson 29 — Penance

Truth: In Penance, Jesus forgives sins committed after Baptism.

Explanation: Jesus gave the Church the power to forgive sins through the priest, restoring us to grace when we have fallen.

Reflection: Jesus is rich in mercy.

Action: Say: “Jesus, I trust in Your mercy.”


Lesson 30 — Contrition

Truth: Contrition is true sorrow for sin.

Explanation: True sorrow means I hate my sin because it offends God, and I want to avoid it in the future.

Reflection: I want my heart to turn back to God.

Action: Pray one Act of Contrition slowly.


Lesson 31 — Confession

Truth: In Confession I must tell my sins honestly.

Explanation: Confession should be simple, truthful, and complete. Jesus already knows my sins and wants me to come in honesty.

Reflection: Honesty opens my heart to mercy.

Action: Ask Jesus for courage to be truthful in Confession.


Lesson 32 — How to Make a Good Confession

Truth: I should prepare carefully for Confession.

Explanation: I prepare by praying, examining my conscience, being sorry for my sins, confessing honestly, and doing my penance.

Reflection: I want to make a good Confession.

Action: Spend one quiet minute asking God to show you your sins.


Lesson 33 — Temporal Punishment and Indulgences

Truth: Sin leaves effects, and God helps us heal and make reparation.

Explanation: Even when guilt is forgiven, we may still need cleansing and repair. Indulgences are part of the Church’s help to us.

Reflection: God wants to heal me fully.

Action: Offer one small sacrifice with love today.


Lesson 34 — Extreme Unction and Holy Orders

Truth: Jesus strengthens the sick and gives ministers to His Church.

Explanation: In Extreme Unction, God gives comfort and strength to the sick. In Holy Orders, men are ordained to serve Christ’s people.

Reflection: Jesus cares for His Church in every need.

Action: Pray for priests and for the sick.


Lesson 35 — Matrimony

Truth: Matrimony unites a man and woman in Christian marriage.

Explanation: God blesses marriage and gives grace to husband and wife to love faithfully and raise children for Him.

Reflection: God blesses families with His grace.

Action: Pray for your family today.


Lesson 36 — The Sacramentals

Truth: Sacramentals help lift my heart to God.

Explanation: Holy water, blessed candles, rosaries, crucifixes, and other sacramentals help awaken faith and devotion.

Reflection: Holy things can help me remember God.

Action: Use holy water reverently today.


Lesson 37 — Prayer

Truth: Prayer lifts my mind and heart to God.

Explanation: In prayer I adore God, thank Him, ask pardon, and ask for the help I need. I can use known prayers or speak to Him in my own words.

Reflection: I can speak to God at any time.

Action: Spend one minute today talking to God from your heart.


Lesson 38 — The Our Father

Truth: Jesus taught us the perfect prayer.

Explanation: The Our Father is the Lord’s Prayer. In it, Jesus teaches us how to speak to the Father with trust, love, and humility.

Reflection: Jesus teaches me how to pray.

Action: Pray the Our Father slowly and carefully today.
