Lightbearers Catechism for Children
This is a simple and gentle introduction to the Catholic faith for children preparing for Confession.
Each lesson includes a clear truth, a short explanation, a simple reflection, and a small action.
You can use these lessons at home, in school, or in a group setting.
Part 1 — The Creed
We learn who God is, why He made us, and what we believe.
Lesson 1 — Why God Made Me
Truth: God made me to know Him, love Him, and serve Him.
Explanation: God made you on purpose. He wants you to belong to Him now and be happy with Him forever.
Reflection: My life has a purpose with God.
Action: Say: “God, help me know, love, and serve You.”
Lesson 2 — God Is Perfect
Truth: God is perfectly good.
Explanation: God is always loving, always wise, and always right.
Reflection: I can trust God.
Action: Say: “I trust You, God.”
Lesson 3 — One God in Three Persons
Truth: There is one God in three Persons.
Explanation: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, but there is only one God.
Reflection: God is greater than I understand.
Action: Make the Sign of the Cross slowly.
Lesson 4 — God Made Everything
Truth: God made heaven and earth.
Explanation: Everything comes from God.
Reflection: The world shows me God.
Action: Thank God for something you see.
Lesson 5 — God Made Me Good
Truth: God made man good.
Explanation: God made us to be close to Him.
Reflection: I belong to God.
Action: Say: “Thank You, God.”
Lesson 6 — Sin Is Choosing Wrong
Truth: Sin is choosing what is wrong.
Explanation: When I know something is wrong and still choose it, I sin.
Reflection: I want to choose what is right.
Action: Ask: “Did I choose well today?”
Lesson 7 — Jesus Came for Me
Truth: Jesus became man.
Explanation: Jesus came because He loves us.
Reflection: Jesus came for me.
Action: Say: “Thank You, Jesus.”
Lesson 8 — Jesus Saved Me
Truth: Jesus died and rose again.
Explanation: Jesus saved us from sin.
Reflection: Jesus loves me deeply.
Action: Say: “Jesus, I love You.”
Lesson 9 — The Holy Spirit Helps Me
Truth: The Holy Spirit gives me grace.
Explanation: Grace helps me do what is right.
Reflection: God helps me every day.
Action: Say: “Holy Spirit, help me.”
Lesson 10 — God Makes Me Strong
Truth: God helps me grow in goodness.
Explanation: God gives me strength to do what is right.
Reflection: I can grow with God.
Action: Ask God for help today.
Lesson 11 — The Church Is God’s Family
Truth: Jesus founded the Church.
Explanation: The Church teaches truth and helps us get to heaven.
Reflection: I belong to God’s family.
Action: Thank Jesus for the Church.
Lesson 12 — The Church Is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic
Truth: The Church has four marks.
Explanation: These marks show the true Church Jesus founded.
Reflection: Jesus keeps His Church true.
Action: Say the four marks slowly.
Lesson 13 — God Forgives Sins
Truth: God forgives sins.
Explanation: Jesus gives forgiveness through the Church.
Reflection: God is full of mercy.
Action: Say: “Jesus, have mercy on me.”
Lesson 14 — Heaven Is Our Home
Truth: Heaven is eternal life with God.
Explanation: God wants us to be with Him forever.
Reflection: I want to be with God forever.
Action: Say: “God, bring me to heaven.”
Part 2 — The Commandments
Lesson 15 — Love God Above All
Truth: I must love God above all things.
Explanation: God must come first in my life.
Reflection: God is first.
Action: Say: “I love You, God.”
Lesson 16 — Respect God’s Name
Truth: I must use God’s name with respect.
Explanation: God’s name is holy.
Reflection: I speak God’s name with love.
Action: Say: “Jesus, I love You.”
Lesson 17 — Keep Sunday Holy
Truth: Sunday is the Lord’s Day.
Explanation: Sunday is for God and rest.
Reflection: Sunday is special.
Action: Prepare for Sunday well.
Lesson 18 — Honour Parents
Truth: I must honour my parents.
Explanation: God gave me parents to guide me.
Reflection: Obedience is love.
Action: Obey quickly today.
Lesson 19 — Respect Life
Truth: I must not harm others.
Explanation: God wants me to protect life.
Reflection: I choose peace.
Action: Be kind today.
Lesson 20 — Be Pure
Truth: I must keep my heart pure.
Explanation: God wants clean thoughts and actions.
Reflection: I want a clean heart.
Action: Turn away from bad choices.
Lesson 21 — Be Honest
Truth: I must not steal.
Explanation: I respect what belongs to others.
Reflection: I am honest.
Action: Share something today.
Lesson 22 — Tell the Truth
Truth: I must tell the truth.
Explanation: Truth builds trust.
Reflection: I speak truth.
Action: Be truthful today.
Lesson 23 — Be Thankful
Truth: I must not be greedy.
Explanation: God wants me to be thankful.
Reflection: I am grateful.
Action: Thank God today.
Lesson 24 — Church Guides Me
Truth: The Church helps me follow God.
Explanation: The Church gives rules to help me stay close to God.
Reflection: I follow the Church.
Action: Listen carefully at Mass.
Lesson 25 — I Must Go to Confession
Truth: I should confess my sins.
Explanation: Confession brings me back to God.
Reflection: I want forgiveness.
Action: Prepare for Confession.
Lesson 26 — I Must Receive Jesus
Truth: I should receive Holy Communion.
Explanation: Jesus comes to me in the Eucharist.
Reflection: I want Jesus in my heart.
Action: Pray before Communion.
Part 3 — The Sacraments and Prayer
Lesson 27 — The Sacraments Help Me
Truth: The Sacraments give grace.
Explanation: Jesus helps me through the Sacraments.
Reflection: God helps me.

Lesson 28 — Baptism
Truth: Baptism made me God’s child.
Explanation: Baptism brings me into God’s family.
Reflection: I belong to God.

Lesson 29 — Confirmation
Truth: Confirmation makes me strong.
Explanation: The Holy Spirit helps me live my faith.

Lesson 30 — The Eucharist
Truth: Jesus is truly present.
Explanation: Jesus comes to me in Holy Communion.
Reflection: Jesus is close to me.
Action: Say: “Jesus, I believe.”
Lesson 31 — Confession
Truth: Jesus forgives my sins.
Explanation: In Confession, Jesus makes my soul clean again.
Reflection: I can begin again.
Action: Say: “I am sorry.”
Lesson 32 — Be Truly Sorry
Truth: I must be sorry for sin.
Explanation: I want to change and do better.
Reflection: I turn back to God.
Action: Pray slowly.
Lesson 33 — Tell My Sins
Truth: I must confess honestly.
Explanation: Jesus wants truth.
Reflection: I am honest with God.
Action: Ask for courage.
Lesson 34 — Do My Penance
Truth: I should do my penance.
Explanation: Penance helps make things right.
Reflection: I want to do better.
Action: Do one small sacrifice.
Lesson 35 — Prayer
Truth: Prayer is talking to God.
Explanation: I can speak to God anytime.
Reflection: God listens to me.
Action: Talk to God today.
Lesson 36 — The Our Father
Truth: Jesus taught us to pray.
Explanation: The Our Father is a perfect prayer.
Reflection: Jesus teaches me.

Lesson 37 — Stay Close to God
Truth: I should stay close to God.
Explanation: God helps me every day.
Reflection: I walk with God.
